This is why you rarely see algae immediately after rainfall. The surface must remain damp for several days or weeks before algae establish themselves.

Harmful Or Not?
The algae themselves are generally not dangerous. However, ignoring them can create several problems. It hazard can:

– Cause paint to deteriorate more quickly as it keep walls damp, encouraging further damage. Also making buildings appear dirty or neglected.
– Contribute to surface wear over many years.
If algae grow inside a bucket or water storage container, it usually means the container has been left with standing water and exposed to light for an extended period.
Although many algae are harmless, their presence indicates that the container is not being cleaned often enough. Some algae can also affect the taste and smell of water.
For drinking water, it's best to wash containers regularly, keep them covered, and store them away from direct sunlight.
Can It Be Prevented?
Absolutely. I would advise prevention, because it is much easier than removing heavy algae growth. And here are practical steps I will list..
- Repair leaking pipes and taps, also improve drainage around buildings.
- Avoid leaving water standing for long periods.
- Keep water containers tightly covered and always wash buckets and tanks regularly.
- Trim vegetation like tress to allow sunlight and airflow. Also scrub affected areas before algae become established.
- Apply waterproof sealants to concrete where appropriate.
Across many communities, mysterious green growth on walls or around homes is sometimes linked to curses, bad luck, or spiritual activity. These beliefs are part of cultural traditions and deserve respectful acknowledgement.
However, after examining both scientific explanations and everyday observations, the evidence consistently points to a natural cause: persistent moisture, suitable temperatures, sunlight, and microscopic algae working together.
Understanding this doesn't diminish cultural beliefs—it simply helps us distinguish between symbolism and the biological processes taking place around us.
